Nothing is more important to us than the health and wellbeing of the animals in our care. And that includes both the residents of the sanctuary and the animals that live in the house with us. We ensure that each and every animal gets the medical care they need as well as regular checkups.
Every November, our vet friends from Walkerton Hanover Vet Hospital come out to the sanctuary to provide each resident with a full physical. Just like at your physical, any health concerns are discussed and investigated. Also at this visit, vaccinations and boosters are given to any animal who is due for one. These can be regular scheduled vaccinations and boosters, or species-appropriate vaccines to prevent comment diseases in that specific species. This fall, for example, all the farm animals will be having their rabies vaccine boosters so the vet will spend an entire afternoon at the sanctuary checking everyone and giving out the vaccines. In May each year, the vet will come to our home so our domestic animals can get their annual physicals and vaccinations, too.
As you know, we have many senior residents at Carroll’s so that means many trips to the vet throughout the year. We also see our vet for any health issues that come up with any of our animals and, of course, for emergency medical care. We are so thankful to have such a caring veterinary clinic so close that can help us ensure that all of our animals get the very best care possible.
