Meet Carmelita
Having never met a slice of pineapple that she didn’t love, Carmelita is a 7 year old pig (born 2018) who came to us when her human family decided they wanted her gone. Her original human family didn’t understand pig behaviours and just saw aggression when Carmelita was simply reinforcing her decided position as top pig in the family hierarchy. While this behaviour is often seen within pig herds, her family didn’t understand that Carmelita thought of them as part of her herd and wanted them to accept her as top pig. After arriving at the sanctuary, Carmelita slowly learned over a few months that here the humans are top pig. Since coming to understand and accept this, she has shown no behavioural issues and is a very sweet and loving girl.
Carmelia enjoys spending time with her best friend, Temperance, and they can usually be found together playing in the pasture, sun bathing and just enjoying everything life has to offer them.
